The free version is sufficient for businesses that need a productivity tool to organize tasks and collaborate on work between team members. The basic plan includes unlimited boards, unlimited team members allowed to collaborate on team boards, unlimited cards (or tasks) and unlimited Power-Ups or integrations to a combination of third-party apps and services. Trello’s basic version is free and a generous free plan at that. Because it offers more advanced customization options, it is not as intuitive to use as Trello and has a steeper learning curve. It offers a comprehensive suite of bug tracking, tracks projects across releases and allows users to customize the software in relation to the organization’s needs and goals. Jira has a larger stable of advanced features. Its flexibility allows it to be applicable to a wide range of industries, project types and team sizes. Therefore, Trello is a great option for businesses looking for a general-use project management software package. It is a more fluid system that easily adapts to the project’s changing priorities. In contrast, Kanban boards are designed to help visualize workflow. Scrum boards follow a very specific and rigid methodology. Complex tasks are broken up into smaller tasks to be completed in a sprint. Scrum is widely used by software development teams. Scrum focuses on small increments of work completed in “sprints” or short time frames. Scrum and Kanban boards are both used to visually track a project’s tasks. The biggest difference between the two is that Trello offers just Kanban boards while Jira offers Kanban, Scrum and sprint boards. While Trello and Jira both offer top-notch task management tools, they each have different strengths.
